Process and timings

Our grant making process goes through several stages: 

EOI Process (April to June):

  • EOIs open: 9am, 1 April 2025
  • EOIs close: 5pm, 30 April 2025
  • EOI review period: May – June 2025

All EOIs will be reviewed by the BNZ Foundation review committee. During the review period, we may gather additional information from you and will likely schedule a call with the BNZ Foundation team to better understand your work. All shortlisted organisations will be notified via email about the status of their application.

Grant Application Process (June to November):

  • Shortlisted EOIs invited to submit a full application: Late June 2025
  • Grant application close: 31 July 2025
  • Grant decision: mid-September 2025

Shortlisted EOIs will be invited to submit a detailed proposal through our Grant Application process. The BNZ Foundation team will work alongside successful organisations to develop their detailed proposals.

Eligibility check

Eligibility

To be eligible, you will be:

  • a New Zealand for-purpose organisation, either:
    • registered as a New Zealand charity, or
    • a purpose-driven social enterprise with social or environmental impact at the core of your business, that has been operating for at least a year
  • based in, and working in New Zealand for the benefit of New Zealand and New Zealanders.

Use of funds

  • Grant funds must only be used to support initiatives addressing BNZ Foundation’s focus areas (Manaaki Taiao, through biodiversity regeneration or Manaaki Tangata, through financial wellbeing).
  • Grant funds cannot be used for the direct benefit of shareholders, owners, or members. The benefit must be for the public or communities.
